Helen has been with Apex since July 2000 and in this time has enjoyed a variety of roles and responsibilities. These ranged from , working in the accounts department to make sure customer accounts were handled correctly to liaising with co-coordinators of Shopwatch schemes to make sure that Apex were providing the best service possible
In her current role, Helen is responsible for overseeing the New Business Development team and working within Sales to ensure that we achieve the best possible solutions for our customers both old and new.
Helen enjoys new challenges and developing ideas and systems which help to benefit the company and our customers and enjoys working within a team, helping them to achieve the best results possible and being part of a company that is continually growing and developing.
In her spare time, Helen enjoys a wide range of activities, in particular being creative and she can often be found up to her eyes in beads and fabric trying to craft something gorgeous to adorn herself or her home. Between early spring and late autumn; Helen is a keen gardener and with her husband spends many hours on their allotment. Winter finds Helen concentrating on warmer pursuits and she spends much of her free time reading, catching up with films and baking.
As a great lover of music Helen loves going to see live bands and tries to get to see as many of her favourite artists as possible.
Role: Sales Executive
Holly joined the Apex team in March 2010, where she has been part of the New Business Development team. Holly is responsible for tending to customers needs for equipment on a daily basis, and raising quotations to help them find the best communication solution for their business.
Holly also takes responsibility for the Apex Website Live Chat facility, where she can assist with any questions or queries customers may have whilst online (please feel free to say hello). Holly enjoys learning new skills, developing her existing ones, being a team player and inputting her own ideas to helping promote Apex and to assist our customers.
Holly has recently completed her NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration and NVQ Level 3 in Sales.
Holly enjoys spending a lot of time socializing with her friends. Holly has a lovely Shih Tzu dog called Ebony who she loves to dress up! Holly loves fashion and is a typical girly girl.
Role: General Manager
Ian came to Apex after gaining many years experience in the Insurance trade, he progressed through claim handling to become a training manager responsible for delivering and creating training programmes through out the country.
As the General Manager at Apex, Ian is responsible for the day to day overseeing of company activities and he has been fundamental in developing and implementing new company policies, procedures and processes to allow Apex to grow and develop into the professional operation it is today. It is important to Ian that all staff members have the tools and skills to grow with the company and he is also responsible for providing training programs to ensure staff development.
Ian is highly competitive in his sporting events, whether this is participating or being a spectator, and as in his professional life, it is important to him that he excels in everything he turns his hand to. This is why Ian was extremely pleased to learn recently, that for the 4th year running, his golf club awarded him the trophy for “Most Fashionable Golfer” 2010. When time and weather allows he is often found (and in those trousers he is hard to miss!) on the golf course perfecting his swing.
Ian enjoys a wide range of country pursuits and is very active in Village life, supporting local businesses – mainly the local hostelries, though after recently becoming a new father, he is not as able to be as dedicated to this hobby as perhaps he once was.
As a life long Newcastle United Fan, Ian is also fortunate to be able to attend matches to support his local team, and can be found every other week cheering on “The Toon”.
Role: Financial Controller
Joe joined the Apex Team in November 2008, where he has always been a part of the Accounts Department. Joe is responsible for the day to day running of the accounts ranging from Credit Control, Cash Flow, Management Accounts, Purchase Ledger & developing company systems to help save time for Apex Staff members.
Along with the Accountancy side of his role, he also takes a keen interest in developing the Company Database to help the monitoring of all things to do with the company. He has helped produce the current company quotation package and also the automation of numerous financial activities.
He enjoys learning new skills and always tries to put these into practice by thinking of the ways to help streamline processes within Apex which will ultimately make lives a lot easier for our customers in terms of invoices and other financial activity.
Joe has recently completed his AAT Accountancy Qualification Level 3 and is currently working towards his Final Level of the Course which is Level 4.
Joe regularly attends the Stadium of Light to watch his Football Team much to the dismay of his General Manager who often twists his arm to watch Newcastle United.
Even though he takes a very keen interest in all Sport, unfortunately he isn’t very good at the playing side of them even they he will always make a fool out of himself and give it a go.
Role: Accounts Administrator
Michelle has worked for Apex since January 2008, where she has been working within our accounts department. Michelle’s main responsibilities are doing the day to tasks for our customer accounts like invoicing, allocating payments and dealing with any queries that may arise. Michelle enjoys working in our accounts department and likes to learn new skills to help her develop in her job role.
In her time at Apex Michelle has completed her Business Administration NVQ level 2 and 3 and is looking into starting an Accounts NVQ.
In her spare time Michelle enjoys spending time with her boyfriend playing pool and going bowling. Her boyfriend is also teaching her how to play darts and now their new house has lots of holes in the wall where she has missed the dart board. In the summer Michelle enjoys going for long walks in the countryside, going on picnics and relaxing in the sun. Michelle is not your typical girly girl and enjoys action packed films and grisly thriller books.
Role: Marketing Executive
Nicola has worked at Apex since November 1994 and as one of the longest running members of staff she has progressed through the company with a wide variety of responsibilities.
Starting in the company back in 1994 as a trainee Administrator, while completing NVQ Business Computing to Level 3, she has also took on roles in Accounts, Stock Control, Quality and First Aid.
At the beginning on 2011 she took on a brand new role as New Business Development Supervisor. In her current role Nicola is developing the companies’ brand and looking into new ways to development our customer base by reaching potential new clients.
After work Nicola likes to relax with friends and family and particularly enjoys socialising. Her favourite nights out would include going for a nice meal then attending a music concert with friends.To relax she likes to spend quiet time reading a good non-fiction book or watching films.
Role: Project Development Engineer
Paul has been with Apex since September 2005 after completing a BEng Degree in Microelectronics and Software Engineering. He is a psart of Apex’s service department. Up until recently, he was responsible for the day to day supervision of the workshop, as well dealing with technical enquiries, programming and installation of radio systems.
As of the May 2011, Paul is moving to the South Dublin area to expand Apex’s business in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Working with the marketing department in Newcastle, he is now responsible for all new business opportunities involving sales and service for the whole of the geographical area of Ireland as well as the installation, commissioning and programming of all of Apex’s radios systems in Ireland.
Paul enjoys working with new technologies to put to best use all of the new features that become available to give Apex’s customers best value for money.
In his spare time, Paul enjoys listening to music, specifically heavy metal, and watching films. He supports Newcastle United F.C. and enjoys watching their matches both at St. James’ and on the TV.

Role: Radio Repair Technician
Ian has worked in electronics all his working life for companies such as Motorola, Storno and also for Durham police.
He studied at evening classes as well as the Open University taking courses in telecommunications.
He also worked for SGS testing laborites, testing products to make sure they could be marketed doing all products from toys to industrial products and medical equipment.
He has carried on working past retirement age to keep occupied
Ian does a lot of running, he has ran in 5 marathons and also enjoys watching sport
Role: Radio Repair Technician
Eric started his career in Telecommunications in 1968 as an apprentice and since then has had a vast variety of experiences within the industry. Over the years Eric has worked for all the utility companies including Emergency and Transportation and of course the communications companies namely Pye (Philips) Storno,Motorola ,Icl and Fujitsu.
Digital Transmission,Telemetry,Instrumentation,Avionics was gained to name just a few, but most of all Erics tendency was to concentrate more in the field of Radio Communications from HF to Microwave which involved Installation Commissioning System fault diagnosis etc.
At present Eric works in the repair department for Apex, repairing radio communications equipment down to component level which is becoming more unique in these days of ever advancing micro-electronics.
Eric’s interests away from Apex include all types of music but mainly Traditional Irish,Flying,Sailing,Not walking,(standing at an angle in the pub is much more his line)
Role: Junior Technician
Andrew joined Apex in February 2011, where he has been part of the service and engineering team. Andrew is responsible for some of the service side of the company, dealing with calls and customers at the door, he also gets orders prepped so that they can get sent out to customers. Mainly he helps around the work shop helping people out if need be.
Andrew likes to learn new skills that will help him in his day to day work. Andrew has completed his NVQ level 2 in customer service and would like to carry on to do his level 3.
Andrew is a person who loves to socialize. He loves to go out with his friends. Andrew is also an active person attending the gym a few times a week. He likes sports including football and formula 1. As Andrew has passed his driving test, he also likes to go out in his car.
Role: Operations Controller
David joined the Apex team in March 2011, taking up the responsibilities of IT technician. David is responsible for ensuring the IT equipment for Apex runs smoothly and finding solutions to new technological challenges which arrive on a daily basis.
By ensuring that the IT aspects of the business run well, this in turn will help to contribute towards a professional, effective service to all our customers.
David is currently learning about the Radio Systems used by the business, and, as a result, should be able to provide a broad range of skills to benefit the team in the future.
David enjoys telling his fellow workers how they should play football properly, without being able to kick a ball himself. David also enjoys Golf, and has a keen interest in World War 2 military history. Musical interests include Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crue and other such easy listening!
Role: Junior Technician
Jordan started at Apex in February 2011 after leaving college. Jordan is part of the Workshop team and helps out with day to day queries that some customers may have.
Jordan’s job role is Junior Technician, this involves helping customers technically as well as assisting other engineers on site surveys and radio installations. Jordan thoroughly enjoys the challenges that the job brings and thrives to learn more to make him more effective in his place of work. Jordan has just completed his NVQ Level 2 in Customer Service.
Jordan’s main interests are music, Jordan enjoys attending regular festivals and music gigs. Jordan has an active social life, he enjoys playing football and other sporting activities.

Role: Service Technician
Richard joined the Apex team in May 1999, where he has been part of fast growing service team. Richard is responsible for the day to day service activities in and out of the building.
This job consists of service calls from existing customers and potential new customer; dealing with repairs, swap outs and dispatching new radios.
It can also entail visiting customers throughout the UK; from the far reaches of Scotland to the south coast of England.
Richard is responsible for setting up and installing new shop/pub watches; from installing antennas and base stations to releasing radios to the customers to help prevent crime.
It has been a challenging and big learning curve over the years, with new challenges every day and experiences; he enjoys the face to face interactions with the customers that helps build a good bond.
Richard is currently married to a frenchy with a beautifuldaughter. His current interests are formula 1 and also enjoys the outdoor life from camping to hill walking and also has a touch of green fingers.

Role: Senior Systems Engineer
Richard is rapidly approaching his sixteenth year with the Apex team, first joining in July 1997 as a trainee service technician.
In his long and varied career at Apex he has enjoyed a number of roles and responsibilities giving him a broad range of experience and wealth of knowledge of most things radio related. On account of this he is often referred to as ‘Old Man Heads’ by other members of the team.
In his current role of Senior Systems Engineer, Richard spends a lot of his time liaising and corresponding with customers old and new, proposing new systems, recommending upgrades and also fulfilling a consultancy role all over the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
Richard enjoys spending time with his family young and old, eating, drinking and often going away for the weekend to enjoy ‘quality time’. Mainly a ‘music’ driven person Richard attempts to play a number of musical instruments (though not all at once, thankfully) including the mandolin, harmonica and guitar. He hopes one day to have one of his songs published.
Occasionally seen fishing the surf and wild moorland rivers, Richard is a keen angler, however this has been over taken a by a new passion for in-line skating and ice skating
