Client:

Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is an acute hospital based in South West London supporting around 350,000 people. The hospital has 520 beds and employs nearly 3,000 people.  Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has a national reputation for innovative developments in healthcare and patient-focused care. Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust contacted Apex Radio Systems after positive referral from a neighbouring hospital, to improve their current radio communication system.

Communication Needs:

The client needed a reliable two way radio communication system which would support key responders in cases of major hospital emergency incidents such as major incidents, bleep failure and evacuation. They were using an analogue back to back radio system which was inefficient and unreliable due to poor radio signal and audio quality.

Apex had to come up with a reliable and effective solution to support the hospital radio communication, which had to cover a large area consisting of a 7 storey building including basement, annexes and tunnel areas.

Testing and Results:

After careful consideration, Apex recommended Sepura DMR solution which included one Sepura SBR8040 Repeater, 18 SBP8040 handportable radios, and 3 six-way chargers.

This gave the hospital 2 time slots: the first slot for Emergency and Evacuation and the second slot for maintenance (as the radios need to be used by the maintenance team responsible for Fire Alarm checks).

Furthermore, Kingston Hospital can now benefit from digital radio functions such as Caller ID, All Call, Private Call, Vibrate Alert, Emergency Call, and Stun / Revive.

Apex employed, installed, and tested the Sepura DMR system to ensure there are no blind spots in coverage, that the voice quality is crisp clear, and that the hospital have a reliable communication system for emergencies.  The feedback from users within the Estates department has been very positive.
